It Felt Good
Felt plays with the abstract nature of our feelings.
Made from leftover dense foam from furniture sampling, these scraps are then sculpted into interactive and playful forms. Once these puzzle pieces find a home, they are felted with wool. The felting process involves a wooden handle holding sharp 3-5” needles that penetrate the foam’s pours, gradually coating the surface with each sharp blow.

Felting, a process equally meditative and painful, involves hundreds of quick blows with the felting tool to cover each piece of foam. This process resonates with understanding and processing our feelings and emotions. While there’s a desire for the process to speed up, there’s also significance to the pace.

In response to a world experience that urges us to toughen up to survive, Felt stands in contrast with an intentional softness when contemplating our emotions. A gentle and playful work that conveys the idea that emotions are fragile and the time it takes to process them may feel like numerous tiny and sharp blows, but they are not intended to harden us; rather, they reveal a beautiful narrative if we are willing to endure the pain.
