Here I am, standing before you.
The Bare Series confronts the fear of public exposure, which can discourage creative work. After years of grappling with this fear, I realized it stemmed from my lack of public experience. The potential for rejection or criticism held me back.
This 15’ wide by 5’ tall work hovers off the wall, symbolizing my vulnerability. It signifies the beginning of this journey. Bare alludes to standing naked before a room, a fear we may associate with being on stage or standing out. To confront this fear, I decided to expose it. I aim to overcome it by gradually getting closer to it until I’m comfortable.
The untreated vegetable leather will age with sun and hand oils, revealing the beauty of fully unleashed creativity.

The form is a 14-gauge steel sheet metal substrate, intentionally thin to allow for easy bending and movement when hung on the wall. I wanted to create a wave-like shape to the piece, referencing the curves of the human body.

As we create these pieces in the Bare series, we welcome discussions about the obstacles we currently avoid that hinder our next creative endeavor.
